Ukraine on the International Stage: Our Students’ Achievements at the International Mathematics Olympiad

A team of Ukrainian high-school students took part in and won prizes at an international mathematics olympiad.

“This year, the students themselves expressed a desire to join the competition, and this is a positive trend,” said Bohdan Rubliov during an online conference for mathematics teachers.

At the international olympiad, Ukraine ranked sixth in the world and showed the best results among all European countries.

Our Students’ Achievements

“Our students won three gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal. During the competition, our national flag was raised and the anthem was played in honor of the winners, while the tournament tables proudly displayed ‘Ukraine’ next to their names,” reports ZN.UA.

Our country had not seen results like these for a long time, but this year the olympiad participants achieved incredible results, attracting the attention of the public and the country’s educators.

The International Mathematics Olympiad in which our students participated proved that Ukraine has talented and intelligent teenagers. Congratulations — we are proud of you and wish you future victories!

Ukrainian Mathematician Bohdan Rubliov

Bohdan Rubliov led our Ukrainian team of young mathematicians. He is a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Chair of the Jury of the All-Ukrainian Mathematics Olympiad, and author of GIOS preparation courses for fifth- and sixth-graders.

“We are currently putting pressure on the Ministry to recognize our results at the international olympiad,” Bohdan Rubliov noted at the GIOS conference.

The winners did not receive the presidential award and did not even receive congratulations from the Ministry. Despite the disappointing news, the olympiad movement continues its active work under Bohdan Rubliov’s leadership and its fight for recognition.

Preparing for Mathematics Olympiads on the GIOS Platform

Olympiad mathematics is a complex field. Preparing for olympiads can be quite an adventure for parents. It is not always easy to understand how to help a child solve the next problem, especially when it comes with a “star”.

The GIOS platform offers school courses to prepare fifth- and sixth-graders for olympiads. The course was personally designed by Symplex school founder Bohdan Rubliov, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Chair of the Jury of the All-Ukrainian Mathematics Olympiad.

✔ More than 100 practical olympiad problems.

These problems help students understand the olympiad format, become familiar with different task types, try to find solutions, and see their mistakes. Recognizing mistakes helps them focus on a specific topic and master it thoroughly.

✔ Prepare for mathematics competitions online.

This is a unique chance to prepare for future victories in an engaging way, at any time and from any device. A child does not need to spend time travelling to tutors. All they need is internet access, a device, and the desire to learn.

✔ Choose a course supported by the country’s best coaches!

If you and your child need additional help, a team of professional mentors will be happy to prepare you to reach the highest peaks. You do not need to supervise every step — the coach will do that for you.

Conclusions

This year, our country achieved outstanding results at the international olympiad. Despite a difficult school year, distance learning, and disappointing mathematics external-assessment results in 2021, our students won mathematics prizes. This is our mathematical victory!

Olympiad mathematics is a “starred” field that requires careful and thorough preparation. We offer preparation on the GIOS platform using a program personally created by Bohdan Rubliov, the “father” of Ukraine’s olympiad movement.
